The 31st edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope saw Hamadou Bih Ibrahim and Wirba Desty Grace emerge victorious. The sporting event, which took place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, saw both athletes each take home a prize of 10 million FCFA.

The competition kicked off with an opening by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, and brought together 600 participants determined to challenge the 4,100 meters altitude of Mount Cameroon. The 42-kilometer course, known for its steep climbs and technical descents, tested the endurance and strategy of the runners. Hamadou Bih Ibrahim dominated the senior men's category, while Wirba Desty Grace won the women's category.

Beyond the victory and financial reward, this edition was also marked by the performance of Sarah Liengu Etonge, nicknamed the "Queen of the Mountain". At 59, or 62 according to some sources, she won the women's veterans category, adding another title to her already impressive record. Sarah Etonge holds the record of seven victories in the women's elite category.

Sarah Etonge, a mother of seven and grandmother of 27 grandchildren, is an iconic figure in Cameroonian athletics. Her journey is a symbol of courage, motherhood and perseverance. She started competing at the age of 27 to support her family after becoming a widow.

The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is more than just a sporting competition; it has become a national symbol of courage, self-transcendence and sporting pride. The performances of Hamadou Bih Ibrahim, Wirba Desty Grace and Sarah Liengu Etonge marked this 31st edition, confirming the vitality of Cameroonian athletics.
