The Neptune Group, led by Cameroonian businessman Antoine Ndzengue, is preparing to enter the retail market with the upcoming opening of its first Maithé Mall supermarket in Obala, in the Centre region. The inauguration is scheduled for June 2026.
This project, representing an investment of one billion FCFA, was launched in 2022 and is expected to create around one hundred jobs. The Maithé Mall in Obala is a two-story building equipped with an escalator, and will include a bakery, a butcher shop, a restaurant, fresh and dry produce stalls, as well as a children's playground. A gas station and a financial service point of ABC Finance, also owned by the Neptune Group, complete the complex. The Neptune Group aims to expand its brand throughout the country.
The arrival of Maithé Mall comes in a context of dynamism in the retail sector in Cameroon, marked by increased competition between foreign brands (Carrefour, Super U, Casino, Mahima) and local operators (Dovv, Santa Lucia, Belavie). This dynamism is supported by rapid urbanization and the emergence of a middle class with increasing purchasing power. According to André Siaka, former head of Cameroonian business leaders, the development of large-scale distribution is an indicator of the formation of a solvent middle class.
While the Neptune Group is best known for the distribution of petroleum products via Neptune Oil, it has diversified into other sectors such as the storage and transport of hydrocarbons (Nosco), freight transport (Petro Services et Logistique), port logistics (Medlog Cameroon), health (Curaday) and catering (Maithé Café). The group also controls ABC Finances, a microfinance structure, and plans to build a tire production plant in Bekoko, near Douala, via Cameroon Tires Factory Project SA.
The tire factory, which is expected to start construction soon, represents an investment of over 400 billion FCFA and will be carried out in EPC mode by the Indian group GHV Infra Projects Limited. It is expected to produce 7.6 million new tires per year.
