The National Federation of University Sports (FENASU) has approved a budget of 422,186,033 FCFA for the year 2026, during its Federal Council meeting on February 27. This sum is intended to cover various aspects of the upcoming University Games, including logistics, technical supervision, and health security.
The meeting, held at the Polytechnic School of Yaounde, was chaired by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo. Participants reviewed the reform of the university games and examined the executive documents for 2025 as well as the prospects for 2026.
The finals of the 2026 University Games will take place from August 5 to 9 at the University of Ebolowa, in the South region. Professor Roger Tsafack Nanfosso, President of FENASU and Rector of the University of Dschang, stressed the importance of this date to allow all participants to prepare adequately.
The new format of the games, tested in 2025, aims to promote local management, reduce logistics costs, and broaden participation at the competition level. This reform includes the Zonal University Championships (CHAZU), organized in different zones of Cameroon. In 2025, the CHAZU took place in Dschang, Maroua, Buea, and Bertoua.
The Federal Council welcomed the positive results of the activities carried out in 2025 and the quality of the documents submitted. The goal is to make university sport a real breeding ground for national civil sport and to strengthen national integration through the mixing of students. The finals in Ebolowa are expected to host 1600 athletes from 22 higher education institutions.
