A road accident involving Salomon Douvogo, Member of Parliament for Mayo-Sava and quaestor at the National Assembly, has claimed the life of a villager on the Mada-Mora road in Cameroon's Far North Region. The incident occurred as the MP was returning from a trip to pay tribute to Cavayé Yeguié Djibril, former Speaker of the National Assembly, who passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 86.

According to local sources, Salomon Douvogo's vehicle violently struck a villager, who died from his injuries. The exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear. An investigation is expected to be opened by the authorities to shed light on this fatal collision.

Salomon Douvogo was reportedly also injured in the accident and was admitted to the Maroua Regional Hospital for treatment. His current health condition has not been specified.

Cavayé Yeguié Djibril, an influential political figure in Cameroon, served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 1992 to 2026. A member of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), he had been a Member of Parliament for Mayo-Sava since 1983. His death marks the end of a long political career. He had been replaced as Speaker of the National Assembly by Théodore Datouo on March 17, 2026.
