The town of Dschang is in mourning following the grim discovery of a teacher, Abdoulai Dzekem, found lifeless on May 21, 2026. The teacher from Fomba Glorious Bilingual Nursery and Primary School was discovered in a gutter, the day after the national day celebrations of May 20 in Cameroon.
Mr. Dzekem's body was found behind the Luna Restaurant, causing a wave of emotion and shock among residents. Videos show locals trying to remove the body from the drain, reflecting the general dismay.
According to testimonies, Abdoulai Dzekem had participated in the national day festivities the day before. His disappearance was reported shortly after, plunging the community into anxiety.
The announcement of his death caused a stir within the educational community, as well as among residents of the Noni department and Dom village, where he was highly regarded. Tributes have multiplied on social media, describing a humble, respected and dedicated man to the education of young people. Former students hail him as "one of the best mathematics teachers of his generation."
Those who knew him at the Nkor public school remember a passionate teacher close to his students, affectionately nicknamed "Bobo."
The exact causes of death remain unknown. No official communication has been made by the administrative or security authorities of Dschang regarding this tragedy, and the opening of an investigation has not been confirmed.
