During a recent appearance at Digital B Agency, Samuel Eto'o, president of FECAFOOT, addressed criticisms regarding his management of Cameroonian football. While stating that he was open to criticism, he clarified that it must be constructive. Eto'o also called some bloggers "versatile," implying that he could not give credence to their statements.
"I understand that some want to usurp the title of journalist when they are sometimes close to certain ministries, and that is the truth," said Samuel Eto'o, pointing the finger at certain Cameroonian media outlets. He added, "Some criticisms, like those of a little sorcerer or a misplaced spirit, are simply trying to waste your time."
Eto'o insisted that he was open to criticism, but that he could not "spend [his] time listening to someone who says one thing in the morning and the opposite a few hours later." He illustrated his point by talking about someone who would claim that it is raining in Yaoundé in the morning, then that it is no longer raining two hours later, and then that it is 40 degrees. "This lack of consistency does not help the debate," he stressed.
The president of FECAFOOT acknowledged that certain truths and criticisms had to be accepted, but not those that sought to destroy or distract. "Other criticisms are like distractions that want to waste your time. But I have no time to waste. We only have one life, and I have a lot of will and a lot of things I want to accomplish to support others," he explained.
In conclusion, Samuel Eto'o reaffirmed his desire to move forward and work, while remaining open to public or private debates. He even invited those who wish to do so to organize a public debate to discuss his management of Cameroonian football.
