On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Cameroon was the scene of a series of tragic events that plunged several communities into mourning and indignation. From violent deaths to collective poisoning, the news has been particularly grim.
In Babadjou, near Mbouda, a young man working on a plantation was found dead. Initial findings indicate that he was killed with stones and clubs. The blunt objects, believed to be the weapons used in the crime, were discovered not far from the body in an abandoned bag. An investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrator(s) of this heinous act and determine the exact circumstances of the murder.
The city of Yaoundé was also confronted with a macabre discovery. In the Mokolo district, the body of an unidentified man, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found on a street. Law enforcement, alerted to the scene, arrived to make the initial findings. The identity of the victim and the cause of death remain unknown at this time.
In Pouma, the death of a 10-year-old child sparked strong emotion. According to reports, the young boy was allegedly beaten to death after being accused of stealing 500 FCFA. Seriously injured, he died shortly after being transferred to the hospital. This tragic case highlights, once again, the problem of domestic violence and the need to strengthen the protection of children in Cameroon. Several people have been arrested in connection with the investigation.
Finally, in Batcham, a family ceremony turned into tragedy when a mass poisoning struck the guests. Twenty-six people were rushed to health centers, presenting symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain and loss of consciousness. They had all consumed taro during a "toqué porte", a celebration preceding a wedding. Suspicion quickly fell on the cook, who allegedly admitted to poisoning the dish. A judicial investigation is underway to shed light on this matter.
