Former coach of Cameroon's Indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song, is reportedly in contention for the head coach position of the Malian national team. According to Nation Foot Mali, Song, who has been free since leaving Cameroon in 2024, is on the list of potential candidates to succeed Tom Saintfiet, who recently resigned from his position.

Rigobert Song's name has been circulating recently, as the Malian national team is in a period of transition. After his time as head of the Indomitable Lions, Song is once again positioning himself in the coach market, awaiting a potential new opportunity on the continent. The former Cameroon captain has already been mentioned in connection with other African national teams, including Congo.

For the time being, the Malian federation has not made any official confirmation. The appointment process is ongoing and several profiles are reportedly being considered to take over as head of the Eagles. The announcement of the new coach is expected in the coming weeks.

Rigobert Song was sacked from his position as coach of Cameroon in February 2024, following the team's disappointing performance at the Africa Cup of Nations. He took office in February 2022 and managed to qualify Cameroon for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. In January 2025, he was appointed coach of the Central African Republic national team.

As a player, Rigobert Song played in a record eight Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and captained in five. He won two AFCON titles in 2000 and 2002. He also holds the record for the most caps for the Cameroon national team, with 137 appearances.
