Bansoa FC has emerged victorious in the final of the "Ngemba Unity Tournament," an event organized by the Cœur en Or (Heart of Gold) association, held on May 17 at the CICAM stadium in Douala. This competition brings together football teams made up of members of the Ngemba community, who originate from the West region of Cameroon and are established in Douala.
Bansoa FC defeated Bafounda "Fils Unique" (Only Son) with a score of 2-0. The winning team seized the opportunities that came their way, demonstrating crucial realism in this important match. Bafounda's assistant coach, Duranviève Kakeu, acknowledged the opponent's superiority, pointing out that defensive errors cost his team dearly.
The captain of Bansoa FC, Vincent Ndassi, expressed his joy and pride after the victory. He highlighted the challenges faced at the beginning of the tournament and praised his team's determination to follow the coach's instructions. Ndassi also acknowledged the strength of the opposing team, admitting that they could have scored early in the match.
The "Ngemba Unity Tournament" was more than just a sporting competition. It served as a platform to celebrate unity and living together within the Ngemba community, which is mainly located in the Bamboutos and Koung-Khi divisions, in the West region of Cameroon. The presence of representatives of traditional chiefs and local elites reinforced the community character of the event. Rostand Foning, president of the Cœur en Or association, said he was proud of the success of this initiative, which promotes the spirit of sharing and the pooling of efforts.
The Ngemba community, numbering approximately 36,500 people, is an ethnolinguistic community in Cameroon. They are mainly found in the Northwest region, around the city of Bamenda. The Ngemba languages are a group of nine related languages spoken in this region.
Beyond the sport, the tournament highlighted the importance of social cohesion and the preservation of cultural values within the Ngemba diaspora in Douala. The event helped strengthen ties between different generations and promote a sense of common belonging.
